Who is the Course for?
Anyone who keeps or intends to keep a small number of sheep and goats, and who is a novice or relative novice in keeping these animals

Course Outline
1 day. Morning classroom session, afternoon session on small holding/farm No formal assessment.

The course covers:
• Applying for a holding number and other legal requirements – record keeping
• Identifying poor health
• Common parasites, treatments and pasture rotation scheme
• Common foot problems - treatment and prevention strategy
• Good fencing practice and bio-security
• Herd health schemes
• Housing to meet animals’ needs
• Estimating body weight and scoring body condition and relating this to health and breeding
• Administering routine treatments
• Selecting cull ewes and breeding rams
• Identifying bad quality food and the risks of feeding pulp and high level of concentrates
• Common feeding regimes for pregnant and barren sheep/goats

What should you bring to the course?
You do not have to bring anything with you. Wear practical clothing suitable for a farm environment.
