Who is the Course for?
Anyone who keeps or intends to keep a small number of beef cattle, and who are total or relative novices when it comes to keeping and breeding beef cattle.
Course Outline 1 day. Morning classroom session, afternoon session on small holding/farm No formal assessment.
The course covers:
Applying for a holding number and other legal requirements record keeping
Identifying poor health
Common parasites and treatments
Bio-security
Herd health schemes
Zoonotic diseases
Administering routine treatments
Oestrous behaviour and calving
Use AI vs a bull
Estimating body weight and scoring body condition and relating this to health and breeding
Food quality and feed values
Routine procedures
What should you bring to the course? You do not have to bring anything with you. Wear practical clothing suitable for a farm environment.
