Ride on Roller

Anyone using a ride on roller for work purposes in a range of industries and work environments.

The course
1 to 4 days depending on experience. Written test – tick boxes and short answers – and a practical assessment.

Do you have a group?
Our instructor can come to your site/workplace (subject to facilities and suitability)

Certificate
Lantra awards certificate of basic training & photo ID card
Refresher training is recommended approximately every three years

What should you bring to the course?
Work overalls or suitable work clothing, Hi- visibility vest or jacket., Hard Hat, Steel Toe cap boots. 2 passport photos, Gloves and Eye protection if appropriate.

All trainees must be over 16 years of age and in good health.
Persons with certain ailments or on certain medication may not be able to take part in the practical sessions

What the course includes:
• Identify the basic construction and components, and the purpose and use of all its controls and gauges.
• Identify and comply with manufacturers instructions in accordance with the operator’s handbook, other information sources, and applicable legislation.
• Carry out all pre-use and running checks.
• Set the roller for site travel.
• Travel over differing types of terrain, including undulating ground.
• Manoeuvre in confined areas using forward and reverse direction.
• Set the roller for compaction duties
• Prepare an area prior to compacting, i.e. traffic/personnel management etc.
• Compact materials to given instructions.
• Compact up to supported and unsupported edges.
• Compact against radii.
• Compact around obstructions.
• Place the roller in an out-of-service condition.
• Recognise compacted and non-compacted areas.
• State conditions that may cause instability of the roller.
• State safety procedures when working up to unsupported edges.
• Explain safety procedures when compacting on inclines.
• Explain the loading and unloading procedures on and off a transporter
