RYA First Aid
Who is the Course for?
The RYA first aid course is designed to give those afloat, a working knowledge of first aid procedures. Ideal for use on inland waterways and up to 60 miles offshore
The Course
This is a one day (8 hour) classroom-based session. No formal assessment - practical testing throughout the course Practical work involves simulations of the unconscious casualty and CPR on a resuscitation manikin.
Refresher training recommended every 3 years.

What should you bring to the course?
No special equipment required. Casual clothing; ladies may prefer to wear trousers.
Note: All trainees must be over 16 years of age. Persons with certain ailments or on certain medication may not be able to take part in the practical sessions.

What the course includes:
Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Recovery position for confined spaces
Controlling bleeding
Recognising Shock
Managing cold shock and hypothermia in immersion and or exposure
Recognising head injuries and levels of response and be aware of breathing difficulties
Dealing with chest pain, sea sickness, diabetic emergencies, anaphylaxis, hyperthermia, fractures, seizures and burns.
Dealing with minor ailments, headaches, sunburn and small lesions.
Choosing suitable first equipment
Getting medical advice by radio and preparing for medical evacuation / rescue.
