First Aid at Work
Who is the Course for?
First aiders in a workplace, where the first aid needs assessment has shown FAW trained first aiders are needed. Generally, these would be workplaces with higher-risk activities.
The Course
3 days including assessment. You will need to perform effective CPR on a resuscitation manikin. Formal assessment at end of course, which includes oral questions and practical simulations.
This course involves some homework both written and practical. Basic literacy skills are required to enable candidates to deal with accident reporting procedures and record keeping
Valid for 3 years. Short day annual refresher/ basic skills update training recommended during the 3-year certification period.
After 3 years, FAW first aiders can take a 2-day re-qualifying course.

What should you bring to the course?
No special equipment required. Casual clothing; ladies may prefer to wear trousers.
All trainees must be over 16 years of age. Persons with certain ailments or on certain medication may not be able to take part in the practical sessions.

Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); adult, child and baby
Recognition and treatment of regurgitation. Use of face shields
The Unconscious Patient
Hypoxia and Chest Injuries
Choking; adult, child and baby
Asthma and Hyperventilation
Bleeding and Minor Injuries
Bandaging and first aid kits
Shock (including anaphlaxis)
Angina & Heart Attack
Stroke (Cerebrovascular accident, CVA)
Burns and Scalds
Poisoning
Fractures, Sprains and Strains
Head and Spinal Injuries
Epilepsy and Diabetes
